Ferries from Ranavik ferjekai

Forty minutes to Stord, 22 times. Ranavik's car ferry quay carries the vehicle link between Kvinnherad and the island of Stord, and it is a considerably longer crossing than anything else in this cluster of quays.

The crossing

Ranavik to Skjersholmane takes about 40 minutes, with 22 sailings and 44 across the quay in both directions. Operated by Skyss.

⚠ Not the passenger boat quay

Ranavik båtkai in the same village runs fast passenger boats to Sunde, Borgundøy and Leirvik in five to fifteen minutes, and takes no vehicles. This quay takes vehicles and goes to one place, forty minutes away.

The Norwegian naming distinguishes them — ferjekai for cars, båtkai for passengers — and booking sites do not always.

What it connects

Kvinnherad on the mainland — Rosendal, Husnes, the Folgefonna peninsula — to Stord, which has the airport, the shipyard and the road link north to Bergen through the Trekantsambandet bridges and tunnels.

Without it the drive round the head of the Hardangerfjord is a very long one.

Where the road goes

South and east from Ranavik toward Husnes and Rosendal, where Norway's only barony stands — a manor house from 1665, the smallest of its kind in Scandinavia. North from Skjersholmane across Stord toward Leirvik and the mainland bridges.

Season

Year round on the same pattern. Summer adds holiday traffic toward Rosendal; the working-day loading is freight and commuters.
