Ferries from Lote ferjekai

Eleven minutes, 55 times. Lote to Anda is one of the shortest links on the E39, the west coast highway, and one of the crossings most often named when Norway discusses replacing ferries with fixed structures.

On a crossing this short and this frequent, arrival order matters more than the timetable for most of the day.

Why this crossing keeps coming up

The E39 runs roughly 1,100 km from Kristiansand to Trondheim and crosses seven fjords by ferry. Removing those crossings has been a stated national ambition for years, and Nordfjord is one of the narrower ones.

Nothing has replaced this ferry yet. Elsewhere on this site you can see both outcomes of that ambition: at Tau the tunnel came and the ferry ended; at Valderøya the tunnel came and the boat kept running.

⚠ The queue, not the clock

Fifty-five sailings means the wait is rarely long — but on a main-road crossing the constraint is deck space, not departures. A July afternoon with caravans can exceed a sailing, which on eleven minutes costs you very little and on a tight schedule still costs you something.

Where it leads

South from Lote the E39 runs toward Førde and Bergen. North from Anda it continues to Nordfjordeid, Volda and the Ålesund district. Inland, the Nordfjord reaches toward the Jostedalsbreen glacier arms at Briksdal and Loen.
