Ferries from Anda ferjekai

Anda is the northern quay of the E39's Nordfjord crossing — 57 sailings, eleven minutes of water, on a highway that runs the length of western Norway and interrupts itself seven times to do it.

The crossing

Anda to Lote takes about 11 minutes, with 57 sailings and 112 across the quay in both directions, operated by Skyss.

The E39 problem

Norway's western trunk road crosses seven fjords by ferry between Kristiansand and Trondheim, over roughly 1,100 km. Each crossing adds waiting time, each is weather-dependent, and together they are why the west coast road is slower than its distance suggests.

The ferry-free E39 project proposes replacing all of them with bridges and tunnels. It is enormously expensive, it has been repeatedly rescheduled, and this crossing is still here.

⚠ Nothing at the quay

A slipway, waiting lanes and not much else. On an eleven-minute crossing with fifty-seven sailings that is rarely a problem — but it is worth knowing before planning a meal stop or a fuel stop here.

Where it leads

North from Anda the road runs to Nordfjordeid and on toward Volda and Ålesund. The Nordfjord itself reaches far inland toward Stryn, Loen and the Jostedalsbreen glacier arms — Briksdalsbreen and Kjenndalsbreen are within an hour.

South across the water, Lote continues toward Førde and Bergen.

Practicalities

No reservations, arrival order, AutoPASS by plate, foot passengers free. Summer peaks fill the deck; the next boat is not far behind.
