Stena Line is one of the world's largest ferry operators, a family-owned Swedish company founded in Gothenburg in 1962 by Sten Allan Olsson and still part of the Olsson family's Stena group. It runs around 20 routes and more than 34,000 sailings a year across ten countries in northern Europe.
Scandinavia, the Irish Sea and beyond
In Scandinavia its ships link Gothenburg with Frederikshavn in Denmark and Kiel in Germany, alongside Baltic crossings to Poland and Latvia. Around the British Isles, Stena Line dominates the Irish Sea — Holyhead–Dublin, Belfast–Cairnryan, Fishguard–Rosslare and Belfast–Liverpool — and it crosses the North Sea between the Hook of Holland and Harwich.
Fleet and innovation
The fleet of around 40 vessels is being modernised with the high-capacity, energy-efficient E-Flexer class, and the company is a pioneer of cleaner fuel: Stena Germanica was converted in 2015 to run on methanol, the first major ship to do so. Overnight routes carry cabins; day crossings offer lounges and seating. Fares vary by route, season and cabin.
