Reederei Frisia Schedules 2026

The AG Reederei Norden-Frisia has been working this coast for more than 150 years, and its job description has not changed: it is a classic Inselversorger — an island supplier. Twelve ferry, passenger and freight vessels run year-round from Norddeich to Norderney and Juist, carrying the people, cars, post and provisions two inhabited islands need.

Two islands, two completely different crossings

Norderney is the straightforward one: departures at regular intervals all year from Fährbrücke 2 beside the ferry terminal, 60 minutes across, and you can bring your car.

Juist is not. The island is tide-dependent, so the ferry usually sails only once a day — the crossing takes about an hour and a half and runs past the seal banks. Juist is also car-free: bringing your own vehicle is impossible, not merely discouraged. And at Norddeich luggage must be handed in before you board, at Fährbrücke 1 on the western side of the mole. Book ahead even for a day trip.

A shipping company that became a group

Around 280 people work across the group, about 180 of them for the shipping company itself. Beyond the ferries it runs car parks at Norddeich, Norderney, Harle and Neßmersiel, hires out electric bicycles, operates an express and excursion programme, and conducts burials at sea. The wider group holds stakes in roughly twenty companies, with separate brands for the ferry (inselfaehre.de), island tourism, the island bus on Norderney, bike hire — and inselflieger.de, an air service to the islands for when the tide or the weather rules out the boat.

Electric ferries, not press-release green

The company has put an electric catamaran named Frisia into service and published a positive assessment after its first full season. It has laid down and christened Inselexpress 3 at Norddeich, extending the express fleet; upgraded the Frisia IV; commissioned a ground-mounted photovoltaic plant; joined the European HyPoBatt project on battery charging for ships; and is researching bi-directional charging with Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences.

Booking

Tickets, parking and island services are sold through the group's Frisonaut platform, which bundles the ferry or express ticket with a car park space and the local visitor levy. Early online booking is recommended on both routes — on Juist because there may be only one sailing, on Norderney because summer capacity fills.
