Golden Star Ferries works the northern Cyclades out of Rafina, running a fleet that mixes conventional ships with high-speed vessels. In our data it shows a pattern worth understanding: one departure per route, five routes, all within a couple of hours of each other.

Paros to Santorini at 09:25, Naxos to Mykonos and Mykonos to Santorini both at 11:30, Ios to Santorini at 11:55, Paros to Naxos at 12:55. These are not five separate services. They are the calls of ships working their way down the island chain, recorded here as individual legs.

Which is why the durations look inconsistent

Mykonos to Santorini takes 170 minutes but Ios to Santorini takes 45, and Ios lies between the two. The long figure is a ship calling at intermediate islands; the short one is the final hop. Reading these as competing options rather than as parts of one southbound run will give you the wrong answer.

Rafina, not Piraeus

The company’s mainland base is Rafina on the east coast of Attica, closer to Athens airport than Piraeus and with shorter crossings to the northern Cyclades. For anyone flying in and heading to Andros, Tinos, Mykonos or Naxos, Rafina is usually the faster start — and it is the reason a Cycladic operator can be based somewhere most visitors have never heard of.
