About
About Color Line
Color Line runs the ferries between Norway, Denmark, Germany and Sweden — four crossings that range from a three-hour hop to an overnight cruise ferry.
The routes
- Kiel–Oslo — the long one, an overnight crossing of the Skagerrak run as a cruise ferry.
- Hirtshals–Kristiansand — 3 hours 15 minutes across the Skagerrak's narrowest point, the fast way from Jutland into southern Norway.
- Hirtshals–Larvik — the same coast, landing closer to Oslo.
- Strömstad–Sandefjord — the short Sweden–Norway crossing.
What it costs
Fares are quoted per person per leg for a full car. Kiel–Oslo from €155 with four passengers sharing a standard inside cabin and a car up to 5 m; Hirtshals–Kristiansand from €30 on the car package. That package discounts 30% one way and up to 40% return, and buying a round trip takes at least 10% off the return leg generally.
Color Club
Membership prices sit below the public fare on every route — €153 against €155 on Kiel–Oslo, €27 against €30 on Kristiansand. Joining is free, so the members' price is effectively the real price.
Before you book
Vehicles over 5 m long or 1.95 m high cost extra and must be declared. The company publishes separate guidance on travelling with pets, passport and ID requirements, travel documents and border regulations — relevant here because these routes cross Schengen's external arrangements with Norway.
