About the Zlarin – Žirje crossing
Žirje is the most remote inhabited island of the Šibenik archipelago, lying about 22 km southwest of the city, and it is not served by the passenger boat that runs to Zlarin, Prvić and Vodice. Instead, Žirje sits at the far end of Jadrolinija's car ferry line to Kaprije and Žirje, which sails Šibenik–Zlarin–Obonjan–Kaprije–Žirje. Because Zlarin is also a stop on that ferry, you can travel from Zlarin to Žirje on the same vessel, staying aboard as it calls at Obonjan and Kaprije along the way. Reckon on roughly 1 to 1.5 hours from Zlarin, since the full Šibenik–Žirje run takes close to two hours.
An indirect but real connection
This is not a quick point-to-point hop. It is the tail of a longer line, so the leg depends on the car-ferry timetable rather than the passenger boat, and it passes two other islands before reaching Žirje. Unlike car-free Zlarin, Žirje does allow vehicles, and this is the ferry that carries them.
Why go to Žirje
Žirje rewards those who want to get away from the crowds. It has around 100 year-round residents, deep quiet, and a strong sense of history: the hilltop Gradina fortress dates to the 6th-century Byzantine era, and the island served as an important military outpost, including during the Homeland War of the 1990s. Its bays, such as Muna and Mikavica, and rugged walking country make it a favourite of yachters and solitude-seekers.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a direct boat from Zlarin to Žirje?
Not on the passenger line. Žirje is reached by Jadrolinija's car ferry that runs Šibenik–Zlarin–Obonjan–Kaprije–Žirje. Since Zlarin is a stop on that ferry, you can ride it through to Žirje, but the vessel calls at Obonjan and Kaprije on the way, so it is an indirect leg rather than a point-to-point crossing.
How long does it take from Zlarin to Žirje?
Roughly one to one and a half hours, because Žirje is the last stop on a line that takes close to two hours from Šibenik and the ferry stops at Obonjan and Kaprije en route.
Can I take a car from Zlarin to Žirje?
The connecting service is a car ferry and Žirje does allow vehicles, so cars can travel to Žirje. Note, however, that Zlarin itself is a car-free island, so you would not normally be boarding a car there.
What is there to see on Žirje?
Žirje is the archipelago's most remote inhabited island, quiet with around 100 residents. Highlights include the 6th-century Byzantine Gradina fortress on the hilltop, remnants of its long history as a military outpost, and secluded bays like Muna and Mikavica popular with sailors.
How often does the ferry to Žirje run?
Only a few sailings a day at most, concentrated in summer and further reduced off-season. Because it serves the outer islands, the timetable is limited, so always confirm departures on Jadrolinija's current car-ferry schedule.
How much does a ticket cost?
Ticket prices vary by operator, season and whether you bring a vehicle. Check the operator (Jadrolinija) for current fares.
Who operates this ferry?
Served by Jadrolinija.
Does the ferry run all year?
Sailing frequency on this route varies by season. Confirm current dates with the operator before travelling.
Can I take a pet on this ferry?
Most ferry operators allow pets on this route, usually in a carrier, on deck or in designated pet areas or cabins, and registered assistance dogs travel free. Rules and any fees vary by operator and vessel — check with Jadrolinija, so declare your pet when booking.
What's the luggage allowance?
Foot passengers can normally bring their own luggage aboard at no extra charge, with racks or a luggage area near the entrance, and there is usually no airline-style weight limit. Oversized or excess items may carry a fee, so check with the operator if you are travelling with bulky baggage.
Where can I check live sailing times?
