Venice to Poreč Ferry

The Venice to Poreč catamaran is one of the oldest and most frequent fast-ferry links across the northern Adriatic, connecting Italy's lagoon city with the first major Istrian resort town in Croatia. It is a passenger-only, international crossing aimed largely at day-trippers and holidaymakers, so there is no vehicle deck: you travel on foot and can usually add a bicycle for a small fee.

Operator and vessels

The route is run seasonally by Venezia Lines and by the Slovenian-Croatian tour operator Kompas, whose catamarans Prince of Venice and Anđela handle many of the sailings. Because Poreč is the anchor port of the Istrian network, it typically enjoys the densest timetable of any Venice–Istria destination.

Crossing time and season

Sailing time is usually around 2 hours 35 minutes to 3 hours on the direct run, though services that call at Rovinj first can take considerably longer, up to roughly 4 hours 20 minutes. The season runs broadly from early May to mid-October, with a Saturday round-trip pattern expanding to several weekly departures in the peak summer months.

Ports

Departures leave from Venice's San Basilio passenger terminal, within easy walking distance of the historic centre, and arrive at Poreč's harbour beside the old town. Poreč is famous for the UNESCO-listed Euphrasian Basilica and its sixth-century mosaics, making it a rewarding same-day excursion.

Documents

This is an international sailing between two EU states, so bring a valid passport or national ID card. Croatia is now in both the EU and the Schengen area, but carrying travel documents remains mandatory for boarding and border checks.
