Ferries from Poreč

Poreč has a sixth-century basilica with its original gold mosaics still in place — the Euphrasian complex, on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1997. The harbour beneath it runs a seasonal catamaran to Venice, when it runs at all.

The route in our data is the fast catamaran to Venice. Our timetable holds no active departure times for it.

That is not an oversight. The Istria–Venice catamarans are a short summer season, announced late, and they change operator between years. Confirm directly for the current season.

⚠ Do not build a trip around this crossing

It is genuinely useful when it operates — Istria to Venice in a morning without flying — and it is the first service withdrawn when a season looks weak. The same applies at Rovinj down the coast.

Have the land route in mind as the alternative that always exists: Trieste is about two hours by road, with trains onward.

The Euphrasian Basilica

Built in the 6th century under Bishop Euphrasius, and listed by UNESCO as a complete episcopal complex — church, baptistery, atrium and bishop's palace together. The apse mosaics are Byzantine work of the same period and have never been replaced.

It is one of the best-preserved early Christian complexes in the Mediterranean, and it is in the middle of a working seaside town rather than on a protected site.

The old town

A Roman street grid on a narrow peninsula — the decumanus and cardo are still the main streets — with Venetian buildings layered over it. The harbour and the excursion boats to Sveti Nikola island are on the north side.

Getting here

Poreč is on the western Istrian coast, about forty-five minutes from Pula airport and an hour from Trieste. For almost everyone, arrival is by road rather than by sea.
