About the Sitia – Heraklion crossing
01:15 on Fridays and 20:30 on Sundays, both timetabled at 135 minutes. Two departures a week from the eastern end of Crete back to Heraklion, one of them in the middle of the night.
Why a 01:15 departure exists
Blue Star works Sitia as a call on longer Aegean rotations rather than as a destination in itself. The hour is set by where the ship is coming from, not by what suits passengers boarding here.
Two and a quarter hours by sea
The road along the north coast of Crete covers the same ground, so this is not the only way west. What the boat offers is a sailing that continues onward — useful if Heraklion is a connection rather than a destination.
Summer only
The listed departures run from 1 June to 30 September 2026. Outside those dates the eastern Cretan calls are dropped from the rotation.

About Heraklion
Crete has two ferry doors and they are 150 kilometres apart. Choosing the wrong one does not cost you a ferry — it costs you a day of driving at the far end. Heraklion is the busier of the two, and it is the only one from which you can reach the Cyclades by sea, which for a lot of itineraries settles the question before price does.
