About the Saint-Augustin – Pakuashipi crossing
One of the shortest crossings in the network — about eight minutes across the Saint-Augustin river, linking the village of Saint-Augustin on the east bank to Pakuashipi on the west. Pakuashipi is an Innu community, and the two settlements sit close enough to see each other across the water yet have no road between them; this ferry is the connection. Like the rest of the Lower North Shore, neither village is reachable by highway from the rest of Québec — Route 138 ends far to the west, and access is by air, by the coastal supply vessel, or over winter ice. The crossing runs frequently for its size, which reflects that it serves daily local movement rather than long-distance travel.
