Palma to Valencia Ferry

The crossing from Palma de Mallorca to Valencia is one of the main sea links between the Balearic Islands and the Spanish mainland, connecting Mallorca's capital directly with the port of Valencia on the eastern Peninsula. It is a full open-sea passage rather than a short hop, so ferries are large ro-pax vessels carrying cars, vans and freight alongside foot passengers.

Operators and timings

Three companies work the route: Baleària, Trasmed and GNV (Grandi Navi Veloci). The typical crossing takes around 7 to 8 hours, though scheduled times range from roughly 7 up to about 10 hours depending on the operator and the specific ship. Most departures from Palma leave in the morning, generally between about 10:00 and 11:00, arriving in Valencia in the evening; a small number of sailings instead depart Palma late at night for an overnight crossing.

Frequency

Between them the operators offer around 21 sailings a week, so on most days there is at least one departure and often more. Baleària provides the densest schedule with up to two sailings a day, while Trasmed and GNV each add daily or near-daily services. Frequency is highest in summer and eases in the low season.

Practical notes

• Ports: ferries leave from the port of Palma and dock in Valencia, where the different operators use separate terminals, so check which berth your ticket specifies.
• Onboard: the daytime crossing suits reclining seats, while overnight sailings offer cabins worth booking for a rest.
• Vehicles: the route is popular with drivers moving between the island and the mainland, and vehicle space fills early in peak periods.

Book ahead in July and August, when both passenger and vehicle capacity sell out on the most convenient departures.
