The 20-minute run back to the mainland lands you at Saint-Joseph-de-la-Rive, at the bottom of the côte de la Miche — the steep descent from Les Éboulements that drivers tend to remember. From there Route 362 climbs back onto the Charlevoix plateau toward Baie-Saint-Paul and La Malbaie. The crossing costs nothing and operates year-round, with departures about every 30 minutes for most of the day, so leaving the island rarely involves waiting long. Sailings run into the late evening, which matters if you have stayed for dinner on the island; the last departure is still the last one, and there is no bridge. In winter the ship works through ice on this stretch of the St. Lawrence, and the service continues regardless.
