Gullholmen has a second quay reached from the mainland at Tuvesvik in five minutes. This route takes six times as long, because it threads out and round rather than crossing straight over.
Käringön has no cars, about eighty year-round residents and a church from 1794 whose weathervane is a fish. Both islands were built on herring; when the shoals left, the fishing families stayed and the houses became summer property.
