Dénia to Ibiza Ferry

The crossing from Dénia, on the Costa Blanca in Alicante province, to Ibiza is the shortest sea link between mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands, spanning roughly 104 kilometres of open Mediterranean. That short distance is exactly why Dénia became a serious ferry hub: from here you reach Ibiza faster than from any other Spanish port.

Who operates it and how long it takes

The route is run by Baleària, which deploys its flagship fast ferry Eleanor Roosevelt on the crossing. This aluminium high-speed vessel was the world's first fast ferry powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), reaching cruising speeds around 35 knots. On a direct sailing it covers Dénia to Ibiza in about 2 hours, though scheduled times of roughly 2 hours 15 minutes are common once port manoeuvres are included.

Vehicles, capacity and frequency

This is a full ro-pax service, so it carries far more than foot passengers. Cars, motorbikes, campervans and even lorries are loaded on the vehicle decks, and the ship has room for well over a thousand passengers, making it a practical choice for a driving holiday on the island. Baleària runs a high number of weekly rotations on the corridor, with the greatest frequency concentrated in the summer high season and lighter sailings through winter.

Departures leave from the port of Dénia, an easy drive from Valencia and the Costa Blanca resorts, and arrive at the port of Eivissa (Ibiza town) beneath the walls of the Dalt Vila old town. The Eleanor Roosevelt was built as a smart ship: passengers can receive boarding details and cabin QR codes by WhatsApp, connect to onboard Wi-Fi and use digital entertainment during the crossing.
