About the DagebüllWyk auf Föhr crossing

This is the busiest crossing in North Frisia and the shortest of the W.D.R.'s island runs: 50 minutes from Dagebüll to Wyk auf Föhr, up to nineteen times a day at the height of summer. The first boat leaves at 05:00 and the last at 20:00 — 21:00 on summer Saturdays. Out of season the count drops to eleven, with the first at 06:10.

The ferry pier at Dagebüll is one of the few in Germany with a railway on it: the neg line from Niebüll runs right down to the berth, and Deutsche Bahn tickets can be bought with the crossing included. Drivers who are leaving the car behind have the Inselparkplatz and a motorhome pitch beside the harbour, with a shuttle bus to the quay.

A single adult fare is €10.30, a return €16.30 and valid for two months; a bicycle costs €9.40 return, but it has to be at the loading point 15 minutes before departure. Children under six and dogs travel free. The ships are double-ended, so they run bow-first in both directions and never turn in the harbour — useful in a channel this shallow.

Vehicles, pets & onboard

  • Bicycles (load 15 minutes before departure)

  • Marine gas oil, RAL-UZ 141 eco design
