About

About Yaletown

Yaletown works as the hinge of the eastern loop: four minutes to Plaza of Nations one way, three minutes to Spyglass Place the other, with departures at 07:00 in both directions on the first circuit and again at 07:13 and 07:29.

Both of its links are short, but they point at different things — Plaza of Nations and the Village lie deeper into the creek's eastern end, while Spyglass Place is the crossing to the low-rise south shore.

The neighbourhood took its name from Yale in the Fraser Canyon, home of the railway workers who moved here when the Canadian Pacific yards were built in the 1880s. What followed was a century of warehouses, then a conversion in the 1990s that left the loading docks and canopies in place as restaurant terraces. The ferry dock is at the bottom of the same slope the goods once came up.
