About
About Plaza of Nations
Two three-to-four minute hops define this dock: the Village at three minutes, Yaletown at four. In the recorded circuit boats arrive at 07:00 and 07:03 and leave at 07:03, 07:04, 07:17 and 07:25 — the busiest few minutes anywhere on the creek.
The plaza is what remains of Expo 86, the world's fair that occupied both shores here and left Vancouver with the SkyTrain, Canada Place and a waterfront the city then spent thirty years rebuilding. The Expo site's eastern end became the Olympic Village for 2010, which is the Village the ferries now call at.
So the two crossings from this dock connect two different bouts of the same civic habit — a city that keeps hosting events in order to rebuild its own edge. The boats, which predate neither, simply carry people between them in under four minutes.
