Ferries from Trondheim hurtigbåtterminal

Trondheim sits at the bottom of a long fjord, and the towns on the far side are two hours away by road and twenty-five minutes by boat. The express boat terminal exists entirely because of that arithmetic.

Where the boats go

• Vanvikan — 25 minutes, 23 sailings. The busiest, and the one that most obviously beats the drive.
• Brekstad on Ørland — 50 minutes, 8 sailings.
• Lensvik — 30 minutes, 6 sailings.
• Hasselvika — 45 minutes, 4 sailings.

⚠ These are passenger boats — no cars

Every route here is express boat only. If you need to move a vehicle across the Trondheimsfjord you are driving round it, through Orkanger and Stjørdal, which is the two-hour journey the boat exists to avoid.

Plan accordingly: park in Trondheim, cross as a foot passenger, and arrange transport at the other end.

Fosen

The peninsula on the north side of the fjord is farming and forestry country with a large air base at Ørland, and it has always looked to Trondheim across the water rather than round it. Brekstad, fifty minutes away by boat, is its main town.

Where the terminal is

The express boat quay is on the city waterfront near Pirterminalen, a short distance from Trondheim central station and the centre. Buses and the tram connect it to the rest of the city.

The Hurtigruten coastal ship uses a different berth in the same harbour area.

Timing

Sharply commuter-shaped on the Vanvikan run, thinner on the others. Winter storms in the outer fjord cancel the Brekstad and Hasselvika sailings more often than the short inner ones.
