About
About Stromboli
Stromboli is an active volcano that has been in continuous eruption for over two thousand years, and the ferry berth sits in the village at its foot. Seven sailings run 06:00 to 16:30 on the 70-minute crossing to Milazzo on the Sicilian mainland, worked by Liberty Lines and Siremar. The island has no roads worth the name — transport is by three-wheeler and on foot — and the ferry is the only way in or out. Sailings are cancelled in rough weather often enough that visitors are advised not to plan tight onward connections; the Aeolian sea gets up quickly. Boats also call at Ginostra on the island's western side, a hamlet with no road at all, reached by a landing stage cut into the rock.
