Liberty Lines Schedules 2026

Liberty Lines is the hydrofoil network that holds Sicily's small islands together. From bases at Milazzo, Trapani, Palermo and Porto Empedocle it runs 59 scheduled lines to 37 ports — the Aeolians, the Egadi, the Pelagie, Ustica and Pantelleria — plus the Strait of Messina and, in summer, a cross-border route along the Istrian coast to Slovenia and Croatia.

Where Liberty Lines sails

The Aeolian network is the busiest: from Milazzo there are around fifteen daily departures to Lipari and fourteen to Vulcano, dropping to seven for Stromboli and three for the far islands of Filicudi and Alicudi. Lipari works as the interchange — nineteen crossings a day to Vulcano, fourteen to Salina — so most island-to-island journeys route through it. The Egadi islands (Favignana, Levanzo, Marettimo) are served from Trapani and Marsala, the Pelagie (Lampedusa, Linosa) from Porto Empedocle, and Ustica from Palermo. Pantelleria connects to Trapani. Messina and Reggio Calabria link the islands to the mainland.

The fleet

More than thirty vessels: fifteen hydrofoils, eight hybrid HSC craft, five catamarans and five monohulls, maintained at the company's own shipyard in Trapani. Typical hydrofoils such as the Adriana M carry around 200 passengers at 35 knots. In 2024 the company launched the HSC Vittorio Morace, the first fast hybrid ship of its kind, and now runs nine next-generation hybrids that switch to electric propulsion near port.

Before you travel

Check-in closes early on these services: be at the boarding gate at least 15 minutes before departure — 45 minutes on international routes — with a valid ticket and photo ID, or boarding is not guaranteed. Boarding passes can be shown from a phone. Tickets are personal and non-transferable; a ticket in someone else's name is refused and not refunded. Passengers needing assistance should request it at least 48 hours ahead through customer care and check in 30 minutes before departure; the service is free. Some ports offer priority boarding for families with children under three. Seating is mandatory for the whole crossing — these are high-speed craft, and outside decks stay closed under way.

Sailings are weather-dependent. Hydrofoils are suspended in heavy seas more readily than conventional ferries, so on marginal days check the operator's live departures page before travelling to the port.
