Ferries from Sandnessjøen hurtigbåtkai

The express boat quay at Sandnessjøen does something the car ferry quay cannot: it reaches Vega. One sailing, eighty minutes, to the World Heritage archipelago — and it is the only scheduled connection in our timetable that gets there directly from here.

⚠ This is not the car ferry quay

Sandnessjøen has two separate landings doing different jobs. The car ferry quay runs 28 sailings to Bjørn on Dønna and takes vehicles. This quay runs passenger express boats to places the car ferry does not reach.

Both are simply "Sandnessjøen" on a ticket. Check which one before walking, because they are not adjacent.

The Vega connection

A single sailing to Gardsøya makes Vega reachable, not convenient. Most vehicle traffic to the archipelago uses Horn and the Igerøy crossing further south instead.

If you are travelling without a car and the timing works, this is the direct route. If it does not, do not force it.

Where the express boats fit

Sandnessjøen is the service centre for the Helgeland islands, and this quay is how the smaller communities reach it — hospital, secondary school, supermarket. The timetable is shaped by those errands, which is why departures cluster and midday is empty.

Season

Year round with a reduced winter pattern. The longer, more exposed runs to Vega and Rørøy are the first to be cancelled.
