Ferries from Rørvik ferjekai

There are two Rørviks in Trøndelag and they are two hundred kilometres apart. This one is a ferry slip on the Fosen peninsula, twenty-five minutes across the water from Trondheim. The other is a town in Nærøysund, far up the coast. Sat-nav will happily send you to the wrong one.

If your directions came from a map application, confirm that the destination is Rørvik ferry quay in Indre Fosen rather than the town of Rørvik in Nærøysund. The two are unrelated, and the mistake costs most of a day.

The crossing you want here is Rørvik to Flakk, about 25 minutes, with 46 sailings each way on Fylkesvei 715 under the AtB network.

What the peninsula is

Fosen sits between the Trondheimsfjord and the open Norwegian Sea — farmland, forest and a long indented coast, with no large towns. Fv715 runs up through it, and this quay is the southern end of that road.

For most traffic it is a shortcut rather than a destination: driving round the head of the Trondheimsfjord instead is a great deal further than the twenty-five minutes of water.

Frequency and its limits

A departure roughly every half hour makes this a turn-up-and-go crossing for most of the day. The exceptions are the two ends of the day and the commuter peaks, when the flow reverses and the queue on one side is much longer than the other.

There is no booking. AutoPASS bills the plate automatically and walk-on passengers travel free.
