⚠ Which Ørnes do you want?

The Sognefjord one is Ornes in Luster: the landing for Urnes stave church, built in the 1130s and UNESCO-listed since 1979. Reach it from Solvorn.

The Nordland one is Ørnes in Meløy, north of the Arctic Circle, serving the island communities of the district and taking Hurtigruten calls at a separate berth. Reach it from Vassdalsvik.

Two operators is the giveaway: Skyss works Vestland, Nordland fylkeskommune works Nordland. No single quay is served by both.

The Meløy side

Inland from Ørnes lies Svartisen, the second largest glacier on the Norwegian mainland, with the Engabreen arm reaching close to sea level in Holandsfjorden. Boats cross in summer and the walk from the landing to the ice takes under an hour.

The Luster side

Ornes sits on the eastern shore of the Lustrafjord, an arm of the Sognefjord. The church stands above the water with almost nothing else around it, and the boat is how you get there.

A note on our data

A second, empty record for the Meløy quay was folded into this page in August 2026 and now redirects here. Splitting the remaining Luster and Meløy traffic into two properly separate ports is still on our list.
