Ferries from Motobu

Motobu sits on the peninsula of the same name in the north-west of Okinawa's main island, and its harbour at Toguchi (渡久地港) is the jumping-off point for Ie island and the wider northern coast. The Churaumi Aquarium — the reason most visitors come this far north — is a short drive away.

Kumejima Ocean Jet connects Toguchi with Naha on Saturdays only: 08:30 down from the capital, 10:10 back, sixty-five minutes each way on the hydrofoil Tsumugi. By road the same journey takes about two hours.

One sailing a week in each direction makes this a narrow service, and it shares a vessel with the operator's main Kumejima line — the same boat carries on south in the afternoon. Be at the harbour 30 minutes before departure; check-in closes 15 minutes ahead.
