Ferries from Logan Airport Ferry Terminal

Boston is the rare major airport where a boat is a serious way into town. The Logan ferry terminal carries 142 active sailings to nine destinations around the harbour, and the fastest of them puts you on the downtown waterfront in 10 minutes — no tunnel, no traffic.

Where the boats go

• Seaport / Fan Pier — 10 minutes, 18 sailings. The busiest.
• Long Wharf, Gate 5A — 10 minutes, 11 sailings.
• North Station / Lovejoy Wharf — 15 minutes, 10 sailings.
• Central Wharf — 10 minutes, 6 sailings.
• Hull — 20 minutes, 8 sailings.
• Quincy and Winthrop Landing — 25 minutes, 6 each.
• Hingham — 30 minutes, 4 sailings.

All operated by MBTA Ferry as part of Boston's public transport system.

⚠ The dock is not at the terminals

The ferry landing sits on the harbour side of the airport, and reaching it means taking the free Massport shuttle — route 66 — from the terminal kerb. That transfer is the part people underestimate.

Add fifteen to twenty minutes on top of the crossing time, and more if a flight has just landed and the shuttle is full.

⚠ Check the specific departure, not the frequency

Eighteen sailings a day to the Seaport sounds like a turn-up service and is not one: the pattern is commuter-shaped, dense at peaks and thin midday, with nothing late at night. The South Shore routes to Hull, Quincy and Hingham are thinner still.

Match the boat to the flight before committing. If it does not line up, the Silver Line bus from the terminals to South Station is free from the airport and runs all day.

When the boat is clearly right

Going to the Seaport, the Financial District or the North End at rush hour. The Ted Williams and Sumner tunnels are the bottleneck for every road route out of Logan, and a ten-minute crossing sidesteps all of it.

It also removes the luggage problem that the Blue Line's stairs create.

Georges Island

One sailing runs out to Fort Warren on Georges Island in season, which makes Logan an odd but functional starting point for a day in the Boston Harbor Islands.

Timing

Weekday peaks carry the traffic; weekends and evenings are thin. The harbour island service is summer only.
