Ferries from Liloan

Liloan sits at the very southern tip of Cebu, and its ferries do two completely different jobs: a twenty-five-minute hop across to Negros, and a three-and-a-half-hour run south to Mindanao. One is a commute. The other is an inter-island voyage.

⚠ This is not the Liloan near Cebu City

There are two places called Liloan on Cebu island — one a municipality just north of Cebu City, and this one in Santander at the southern tip, about four hours' drive apart.

Search results and booking sites conflate them regularly. If a map puts your ferry terminal twenty minutes from Cebu City, it is the wrong Liloan.

The Surigao route

Three and a half hours to Mindanao makes this a genuine alternative to flying for anyone travelling between the Visayas and the northeast of Mindanao — and the gateway to Siargao, which is reached onward from Surigao.

Two sailings is not many. Check the schedule before committing to the connection.

What is nearby

Oslob, where the whale sharks are, is a short distance north along the coast. Moalboal and the sardine run are on the west side of the same southern peninsula. This end of Cebu has become a destination in its own right rather than a place to pass through.

Season

Year round, weather permitting. Typhoon season suspends sailings at short notice, and the small fast craft go first.
