Ferries from East 34th Street

The East 34th Street Ferry Landing sits on Manhattan's East Side, at the foot of East 34th Street where the street meets FDR Drive and the East River, just south of the NYU Langone medical complex. It is one of NYC Ferry's busiest Manhattan hubs, and unlike most landings it is a transfer point where three routes converge, so travelers frequently switch boats here rather than only boarding and disembarking.

NYC Ferry (operated for the city's Economic Development Corporation) runs the service. Three routes call at East 34th Street: the East River route, which threads across to Hunters Point South in Long Island City and up the Brooklyn waterfront to Greenpoint, North Williamsburg, South Williamsburg, and DUMBO before finishing at Wall Street/Pier 11; the Astoria route, linking Brooklyn Navy Yard, Long Island City, Roosevelt Island, Astoria, and East 90th Street; and the Rockaway-Soundview service reaching Stuyvesant Cove, Corlears Hook, the Bronx's Soundview, and the Rockaways. That makes E 34th St a practical connection to Brooklyn Navy Yard, Corlears Hook, East 90th Street, Greenpoint, Hunters Point South, and Long Island City.

A single ride is a flat $4.00 (a 10-trip pass is $27.50), the same fare regardless of distance, and children under 44 inches ride free. Tickets are bought through the NYC Ferry app or at the dockside vending machine; there is no seat reservation, so busy summer weekend sailings to the Rockaways can fill and leave standing riders for the next boat.

Reaching the landing takes a short walk east from Midtown, as there is no subway stop at the waterfront. The M34 Select Bus Service runs crosstown along 34th Street almost to the pier, and the closest subway is the 6 train at 33rd Street/Park Avenue, roughly a 12-minute walk west. There is no dedicated ferry parking here. The same pier is also used by Seastreak's New Jersey commuter catamarans and seasonal excursion boats, so check signage for the correct berth.
