The landing is a stop on the single Astoria route, positioned between Wall Street/Pier 11 to the south and East 34th Street in Manhattan to the north. From here the Astoria boats continue on to Long Island City, Roosevelt Island, Astoria in Queens, and East 90th Street on Manhattan's Upper East Side. In practice the two most useful direct hops are the quick crossing to Pier 11 in the Financial District and the ride to East 34th Street, where riders can transfer to the East River and Rockaway-Soundview routes.

Getting to the dock is the main quirk of this stop. It sits inside a working, gated industrial yard, so pedestrians enter through the Navy Yard gates and walk toward Dock 72; the free NYC Ferry connection and the Yard's own shuttle buses help bridge the last stretch from Flushing Avenue. The nearest subway is the G train at Flushing Avenue or the F to York Street in DUMBO, both a 10 to 15 minute walk away. Because it is a single-route landing, sailings are less frequent than at multi-line hubs, so it is worth checking the timetable before heading down.
