About Cuxhaven
Cuxhaven stands where the Elbe meets the North Sea, and it is the mainland base for Helgoland: Cassen Eils has sailed from here since 1952 and is the only company keeping the island supplied through the winter.
What leaves from here
The LNG-powered MS Helgoland takes about two and a half hours to the island; the catamarans do it in roughly an hour. Beyond the island service, boats run into the UNESCO World Heritage Wadden Sea — to Neuwerk, out to the seal banks, and through the Kiel Canal.
Practical
Day trips from €66.00, multi-day tickets valid two months, over-60 and youth fares available, and a small fuel surcharge added per leg. Rail connections run towards Hamburg.
