SL — Storstockholms Lokaltrafik — runs public transport across the Stockholm region: metro, commuter rail, trams, buses and the commuter boats that cross the water the city is built on.

One ticket, and it reaches further than SL's own boats

Fares work by contactless card, the SL app, an SL card or a paper ticket. Importantly, SL tickets are also valid on Waxholmsbolaget services — the archipelago operator — so a single fare can carry you well beyond the city's own network.

Customer service that actually stays open

SL's customer services run 24 hours a day, every day of the year, in English and other languages where possible. For a visitor arriving late with a problem, that is a meaningful difference from an office-hours helpline.

Rules that changed recently

E-scooters and small electric vehicles are banned from the metro. Bicycles are allowed on the Tvärbanan light rail outside peak hours. Both are recent decisions rather than long-standing policy.

Alongside the standard site SL publishes versions in Swedish sign language and in lättläst — plain, easy-read Swedish. Accessibility statements are published per service.

How dense the commuter boats actually are

Two numbers give the scale. Saltsjökvarn to Allmänna Gränd carries 152 departures at eight to nine minutes, from 05:56 to 23:31. Kvarnholmen to Finnboda carries 150 at four to five minutes.

A five-minute crossing running 150 times a day is not a ferry service in the way most of this site uses the word — it is a link in a metro network that happens to cross water. The six-o'clock start and the half-past-eleven finish are commuter hours, and the day patterns split into six distinct masks, so a Sunday timetable and a Tuesday one are visibly different services.
