About

About MF Øisang

Øisangferga is a small local car-and-passenger ferry in the skerries off Risør, in Norway's Agder county. Its wooden boat, the MF Øisang, is billed as the oldest wooden car ferry still in service in Norway, a much-loved lifeline for a tiny island community.

Øisang to Risør

The ferry links the island community of Øisang (Øysang) with the mainland town of Risør, weaving through the southern Norwegian archipelago. It runs to a seasonal pattern — carrying students and residents in winter and turning to tourist traffic in summer — and also makes trips to the islet nicknamed "Lille Danmark". It lies on the Nordsjøruten (North Sea Cycle Route), so it carries touring cyclists too.

Vessel and fares

The MF Øisang was built in 1950 at the Moen wooden-boat yard and carries up to 60 passengers and three cars. Fares are in Norwegian kroner (around 90 NOK per adult, 200 NOK per car one-way), and the operator also offers charter trips and a companion taxi-boat service.
