About

About MF Øisang

MF Øisang was built at the Moen wooden boat yard in 1950, which makes her the oldest wooden car ferry still working in Norway. She crosses between Øysang and the town of Risør on the Skagerrak coast, carrying 60 passengers and three cars a trip.

A school bus that floats

The ferry carries pupils through the whole school year, and the winter timetable is built around that rather than around visitors. In summer it shifts: an hourly service through the day for tourists. There are no sailings on Saturdays or Sundays.

Fares

Øysang to Risør costs 90 NOK for an adult, 55 for a child or senior, 200 NOK for a car, 120 for a motorcycle and 35 for a bicycle or pram. To Lille Danmark it is 70 and 50. All prices are one way, and all cards are accepted on board.

Lille Danmark, on request

The ferry calls at Lille Danmark — a bathing spot — when someone needs it, not to a fixed schedule. She is also part of National Cycle Route 1, the North Sea Route, which is why the bicycle fare matters.

Before you go

Timetables are posted at the quays and at the Risør tourist office. Bad weather or routine maintenance can take the ferry out of service for short periods, and the current timetable runs from 10 August 2026 to 26 June 2027 — with no sailings at all in week 32 for the crew's holiday. The ferry company answers on 970 61 642; there is a water taxi on 958 69 418. She can also be chartered.
