Ertürk Lines calls itself Turkey's first private line, and the claim holds up: founded in 1967 by Vehbi Ertürk, Ahmet Saim Ertürk, Kemal Ertürk and Yaşar Çetin Coşkun, it was the first private Turkish company to run scheduled, organised sailings from Turkey to the Greek islands. Activity had begun in the mid-1960s; incorporation in 1967 turned an informal crossing into a formal line. Six decades later it is still run by the same family, and holds TÜRSAB membership number 1068.

A detour into history

The company's own account singles out 1975, when it ran operations from Silifke-Taşucu to Kyrenia on Cyprus — establishing the civil sea link between Turkey and the island. It is an unusual line on a ferry operator's CV, and the company treats it as the most significant professional reference in its sixty years.

Çeşme to Chios

The core route today is Çeşme to Chios, about 45 minutes from Çeşme Ulusoy Port to Chios Port, worked by the Ertürk High Speed Craft and Ertürk-1. An adult single is €40, a return €50 whether same-day or open-dated; children 6–12 pay €30/€35 and infants €25. The company also sells Ayvalık–Lesvos, Bodrum–Kos, Fethiye–Rhodes, Kuşadası–Samos and Kaş–Kastellorizo.

Taking a vehicle — and the deadline that voids your ticket

This is a genuine car ferry, which is rarer on the Turkey–Greece crossings than you might expect. A car under 4.25 m is €100 single, €150 return; a jeep the same; a minibus €125–€200; a camper €150–€200 by length; a coach under 12 m €300/€400; a motorcycle over 250 cc €50/€80. Bicycles travel free.

But vehicle passengers face a hard cut-off. Check-in for cars happens only at the Ulusoy Port office, an hour before departure — and vehicles arriving after 08.45 for morning sailings or 18.15 for evening ones forfeit carriage, because customs enforcement will not process them. Drivers do get check-in priority; tell the staff you have a vehicle.

Check-in, refunds, weather

Foot passengers must complete check-in at least an hour before departure and the desk closes 30 minutes before sailing; you then need to be aboard 15 minutes ahead. Bring your voucher — without it, and with no ticket found in the system, the company is not obliged to carry you. Time spent in the port cafeteria or duty-free shop is your own problem.

Tickets are not refundable. You get one open-dating change, provided you give two days' notice. If weather cancels the sailing the ticket is held open indefinitely — but the company does not cover accommodation or meals for the delay, so build that risk into shoulder-season plans.
