About AG Ems
AG Ems is one of Germany's oldest ferry companies, carrying passengers to the North Sea island of Borkum and beyond. Its seaside-ferry tradition dates to 1843–44 and the joint-stock company was incorporated in 1889; it is based at Emden on the Ems estuary.
Borkum and Helgoland
Its core service is the year-round crossing to the East Frisian island of Borkum, from Emden in Germany and Eemshaven in the Netherlands — the island's main link across the Wadden Sea. A high-speed catamaran also runs out to the remote island of Helgoland in the German Bight.
Fleet and fares
AG Ems is a pioneer of cleaner ships: its ferry Ostfriesland (converted 2015) was the first German-flagged vessel with LNG propulsion, followed by the LNG newbuild Helgoland and the LNG conversion of the Münsterland. Alongside the ferries it runs the catamaran Nordlicht II. Fares are in euros, booked through the company's site.
