About

About Africa Morocco Link

Africa Morocco Link was set up in 2016 to work the Strait of Gibraltar — the fourteen kilometres of water that carry more passengers between two continents than any other stretch in the Mediterranean. Since 2024 it has been owned jointly by Morocco's CTM (51%) and Sweden's Stena Line (49%), a pairing visible in the fleet: one of its ro-pax ships is the former Stena Europe.

Two crossings, two different jobs

Tanger Med–Algeciras is the volume route: large ro-pax ships carrying cars, motorhomes and freight across to the Spanish side of the bay, an hour to ninety minutes port to port. Tanger Ville–Tarifa is the fast one — high-speed craft from the city harbour rather than the container port, landing at the southernmost point of mainland Europe. Those two lines are the company's entire scheduled network; AML's own route list shows nothing else.

The fleet

Four vessels. The fast ferries are Morocco Express 1 — Austal-built, 72 m, 34 knots, 647 passengers — and Maria Dolores. The ro-pax ships are Morocco Star, 152 m with 66 cabins and room for 935 passengers, and Stena Europe, which came with the Stena shareholding.

Marhaba, and why the timetable moves

Summer here is not an ordinary high season. Operation Marhaba — the annual return of the Moroccan diaspora from Europe — turns the Strait into a mass movement between June and September, and AML is one of its core carriers, adding capacity and sailings for the peak. That is also why the company publishes no fixed timetable: its own schedules page states plainly that departures are subject to change and directs travellers to check the live booking system. Summer round-trip foot fares have started from around €57.
