Venice to Umag Ferry

The Venice to Umag catamaran serves the northernmost town on the Istrian peninsula, making it the closest Croatian port to Venice and, in geographic terms, the shortest hop across the northern Adriatic. It is a passenger-only, international service with no car deck, so travellers board on foot and can generally bring a bicycle for an extra fee.

Operators and vessels

The link is run seasonally by Venezia Lines, and on some dates by Adriatic Lines, using high-speed catamarans. Venezia Lines' craft use air-cushion technology that lets them reach speeds of up to around 40 knots, so despite the short distance the ride is quick and smooth.

Crossing time and season

As the nearest Istrian port, Umag is reached in roughly 2 to 3 hours depending on the exact routing and whether other towns are called at en route. It also has the lightest timetable of the Venice–Istria destinations: typically only one departure per week, and in some years Venezia Lines sells the direct Umag link only in the peak July and August window.

Ports

Sailings leave Venice's San Basilio terminal and arrive at Umag's marina near the old-town peninsula. Umag is known as Croatia's tennis capital, hosting the long-running Croatia Open ATP tournament each summer, and its walkable Venetian-influenced core sits right by the water.

Even though this is the shortest of the crossings, it remains an international EU-to-EU sailing, so every passenger must carry a valid passport or national identity card for boarding and border checks.
