About the TravemündeHelsinki crossing

This is the long way to Finland and, for anyone bringing a vehicle, usually the only way that avoids driving up through Sweden or shipping via Estonia. Finnlines leaves Travemünde at 02:00 every night — 02:30 on Saturdays — and berths at Helsinki's Vuosaari harbour at 10:00 the next day. Finland runs an hour ahead of Germany, so the clock shows 32 hours but the crossing is 31.

Three ships share the run: Finnstar, Finnlady and Finnmaid. With two nights aboard a cabin is not really optional, and Finnlines prices the route accordingly — its car package starts at €595 for two people, inside cabin and vehicle space included.

Check-in at Travemünde opens at 20:30 the evening before and shuts two hours before sailing. Vehicles over 3.8 m — buses, tall motorhomes — check in separately at the Hafenhaus, and anything above 2.10 m loads later onto a different deck, so arriving by 22:30 is worth it if you care where you park. Travemünde is Lübeck's seaward district, and the same quays serve the nine-hour run to Malmö.
