About the SilbaIlovik crossing

This is a hop between two of the northern Adriatic's most famously peaceful car-free islands. Silba, at the top of the Zadar archipelago, bans motor vehicles altogether – islanders and visitors move on foot or by bike between its two bays, with the landmark Toreta tower watching over the isthmus. Ilovik lies off the southern tip of Lošinj, a flower-filled hamlet of around a hundred people facing the yacht-lined channel and the islet of Sveti Petar. Neither island has cars, so the link between them is purely a passenger catamaran.

How the connection works

The two islands sit on different national lines – Silba is a stop on the Zadar–Lošinj coastal route, while Ilovik sits on the Lošinj–Rijeka Kvarner route – but in summer they are joined directly by Kapetan Luka's seasonal Krilo catamaran running Pula–Unije–Susak–Mali Lošinj–Ilovik–Silba–Zadar. On that line Silba and Ilovik are consecutive stops, so the direct crossing is quick – on the order of 20 minutes.

  • Direct in season: the Krilo Pula–Zadar catamaran links the two islands without a change
  • Off-season: outside the summer window you may need to route via Mali Lošinj, changing between the Zadar and Kvarner lines
  • Passenger-only: both islands are car-free, so this is always a foot-passenger service

Because the direct link leans on a seasonal catamaran, service is concentrated in summer and can be sparse or require a connection at other times. Check the live timetable before relying on a same-day crossing.

Getting to & from the ports

Frequently asked questions

Is there a direct boat from Silba to Ilovik?

Yes, in summer. Kapetan Luka's seasonal Krilo catamaran on the Pula to Zadar coastal route stops at Silba and Ilovik as consecutive ports, so you can cross directly without changing vessels.

How long does the Silba to Ilovik crossing take?

About 20 minutes on the direct seasonal catamaran, since the two islands are neighbouring stops on the same line.

What if I travel outside the summer season?

The direct link is seasonal. Off-season you will usually have to route via Mali Lošinj, changing between the Zadar to Lošinj line that serves Silba and the Lošinj to Rijeka line that serves Ilovik. Allow extra time and check connections carefully.

Can I take a car between Silba and Ilovik?

No. Both Silba and Ilovik are car-free islands and the service is a passenger-only catamaran. You can bring luggage, and bikes and pets are generally accepted.

Why are Silba and Ilovik on different ferry lines?

Silba belongs to the Zadar archipelago and sits on the Zadar to Mali Lošinj coastal line, while Ilovik is off Lošinj on the Rijeka to Mali Lošinj Kvarner line. The seasonal Krilo Pula to Zadar catamaran is the one service that stitches both islands into a single direct run.

How much does a ticket cost?

Ticket prices vary by operator, season and whether you bring a vehicle. Check the operator (Miatours) for current fares.

Who operates this ferry?

Served by Miatours.

Can I take a pet on this ferry?

Most ferry operators allow pets on this route, usually in a carrier, on deck or in designated pet areas or cabins, and registered assistance dogs travel free. Rules and any fees vary by operator and vessel — check with Miatours, so declare your pet when booking.

What's the luggage allowance?

Foot passengers can normally bring their own luggage aboard at no extra charge, with racks or a luggage area near the entrance, and there is usually no airline-style weight limit. Oversized or excess items may carry a fee, so check with the operator if you are travelling with bulky baggage.

Where can I check live sailing times?
