About the IlovikMali Lošinj crossing

Ilovik is a tiny, car-free island tucked off the southern tip of Lošinj, separated from its little sister islet of Sveti Petar by a narrow, mast-filled channel that yachtsmen treat as a natural marina. With only around a hundred year-round residents and a single palm- and oleander-lined waterfront, it has no road link to anywhere, so the passenger catamaran to Mali Lošinj is the lifeline that carries islanders, summer guests and supplies back to the main island's biggest town.

The crossing

This leg is passenger-only (no cars or motorbikes) and is run by Jadrolinija's year-round Kvarner coastal catamaran, the daily service that threads Rijeka to Cres, Martinšćica, Unije, Susak, Ilovik and finally Mali Lošinj. Ilovik is the last island stop before the boat reaches Mali Lošinj, so on that line the hop is short and direct, generally in the region of 35 to 40 minutes as the catamaran runs up the sheltered eastern flank of Lošinj.

In the peak summer months the same pair of islands is also linked by Kapetan Luka's seasonal Krilo catamaran on its Pula–Zadar coastal run, which gives a second departure option on some days.

  • Vessel: fast passenger catamaran – foot passengers, cabin baggage, bikes and pets only
  • No vehicles: Ilovik is car-free, so nothing rolls on or off
  • Best for: day trips from Mali Lošinj and island-hoppers heading north up the Kvarner chain

Timings shift with the season and the day of the week, and winter runs are sparse, so always confirm the current sailing before travelling.

Your destination

About Mali Lošinj

Our timetable holds no scheduled ferry into Mali Lošinj, and that is not a gap in the data. Lošinj is joined to Cres by a bridge, and Cres is a short car-ferry hop from the Istrian and Kvarner mainland — so most people arrive here by road, not by boat. Knowing that saves you searching for a crossing that you do not need.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the catamaran from Ilovik to Mali Lošinj?

The direct hop is short, typically around 35 to 40 minutes. Ilovik is the final island stop before Mali Lošinj on Jadrolinija's Kvarner coastal catamaran, so you do not sit through a string of other calls on this leg.

Can I take a car from Ilovik to Mali Lošinj?

No. The service is a passenger-only catamaran and Ilovik itself is a car-free island, so there is no vehicle deck. You can bring foot-passenger luggage, and bikes and pets are usually accepted.

Who operates the Ilovik to Mali Lošinj catamaran?

Jadrolinija runs it year-round as part of the Rijeka to Mali Lošinj Kvarner coastal line that also calls at Cres, Martinšćica, Unije and Susak. In summer Kapetan Luka's Krilo catamaran on the Pula to Zadar route adds extra seasonal sailings between the two.

How often does the catamaran run?

There is generally at least one daily sailing on the year-round Jadrolinija line, with more frequency added in high season by the seasonal Krilo service. Winter timetables are thin, so check the exact departure for your date.

Is Ilovik to Mali Lošinj a direct route?

On the Jadrolinija Kvarner catamaran it is effectively direct, since Ilovik is the last stop before Mali Lošinj. You board at Ilovik and the next port is Mali Lošinj.

How much does a ticket cost?

Ticket prices vary by operator, season and whether you bring a vehicle. Check the operator (Miatours) for current fares.

Does the ferry run all year?

Sailing frequency on this route varies by season. Confirm current dates with the operator before travelling.

Can I take a pet on this ferry?

Most ferry operators allow pets on this route, usually in a carrier, on deck or in designated pet areas or cabins, and registered assistance dogs travel free. Rules and any fees vary by operator and vessel — check with Miatours, so declare your pet when booking.

What's the luggage allowance?

Foot passengers can normally bring their own luggage aboard at no extra charge, with racks or a luggage area near the entrance, and there is usually no airline-style weight limit. Oversized or excess items may carry a fee, so check with the operator if you are travelling with bulky baggage.

Where can I check live sailing times?

The timetable on this page shows the latest published sailings for this route. Always confirm with the operator before travelling, as schedules change seasonally.
