Sète to Tánger Med Ferry

The Sète to Tanger Med ferry connects the French Mediterranean port of Sète, near Montpellier, with Tanger Med, Morocco's large modern port located around 40 km east of the city of Tangier on the Strait of Gibraltar. Tanger Med is the principal entry point to northern Morocco and, from there, the rest of the country, making this a strategic long-haul link for travellers who want to sail directly from France rather than driving the length of Spain to Algeciras.

The crossing is operated year-round by GNV (Grandi Navi Veloci), which runs conventional car ferries on the route. The vessels carry both foot passengers and vehicles, and offer a range of cabin categories and reclining seats, along with restaurants, bars and lounges to make the long voyage more comfortable.

Crossing time

This is among the longest ferry crossings serving Morocco. The direct passage typically takes in the region of 44 to 48 hours, varying with the specific ship and with weather and sea conditions. Given nearly two days at sea, a cabin is essentially a necessity rather than a luxury on this route.

GNV sails the Sète to Tanger Med route on average around twice a week across the year, with departures scheduled at various times of day. Like the other France-to-Morocco crossings it sees strong demand from the Moroccan community in Europe, and capacity tightens considerably during the summer holiday peak, so early booking is advised.

Passport and vehicles

As an international crossing between France and Morocco, all passengers must carry a valid passport, and non-EU nationals should confirm Moroccan entry requirements in advance. The route is widely used by drivers bringing cars and motorhomes, who should carry vehicle registration and insurance documents. Reserving cabins and vehicle space ahead of time is strongly recommended, especially in summer.
