About the S. Maria del Mare Ferry – Alberoni Faro Rocchetta crossing

Pellestrina is eleven kilometres long, a few hundred metres wide, and has no bridge at either end. This ferry is how the northern end connects to the Lido, and it runs thirty-six times a day on one calendar with no exceptions.

Why it does not stop at night

Because the road does not. Sailings run hourly from 00:30 through the small hours and tighten from the morning, closing at 23:30. Anyone living on the strip and working in Venice depends on both ends of that.

Ten minutes across the Malamocco inlet

0.6 nautical miles over the deep-water entrance the container ships use to reach Marghera. A fixed crossing here would have to clear their masts.
