About the Roscoff – Île de Batz crossing
Fifteen minutes of water separate Roscoff from Île de Batz, and the tide decides how you cross them. At high water the launches leave from the new quay in Roscoff harbour; at low water they go from the far end of the estacade, the causeway pier that runs some 600 metres out into the channel. Same boat, same ticket, a very different walk with luggage. Be there 15 to 20 minutes before departure either way.
Who you sail with
Three Roscoff shipowners — Armein Excursions, Armor Excursions and CFTM — merged their operations in January 2019 into the G.I.E. Vedettes de l'Île de Batz. They take the service in rotation, so the boat that shows up depends on the week rather than on which company you booked. From October to May a single launch covers the whole day; from mid-July to mid-August all six are out and departures come every half hour.
Timetable
Roughly ten sailings each way between 1 April and 5 July and again from 1 September to 14 October — first boat off the island at 07.45, last back at 18.30. Between 6 July and 31 August that rises to twenty-five each way, running from 07.30 until 19.45. The winter timetable, from 15 October, has been reduced to a first and last sailing while work continues on the estacade; the intermediate departures are not currently published, and the 07.45 from Batz and 08.30 from Roscoff do not run on Sundays or public holidays.
Fares
Tickets are return only — €11 for anyone aged 12 and over, €7 for children 4–11, €2 for under-4s. Carrying a bicycle, e-bike, tandem or folding trailer costs €18, a child's or folding bike €9, a dog €2. You are allowed one suitcase and one piece of hand luggage; extra bags are €18 each. Cargo bikes are refused. There is no individual reservation — turn up, or buy online — and you cannot pay by card on board, only at the kiosk.
What the boat is not

Frequently asked questions
How long is the ferry from Roscoff to the Ile de Batz?
The crossing takes about 15 minutes. It is a short passenger hop across the channel between Roscoff and the island of Batz.
Can I take a car to the Ile de Batz?
No. The boats are passenger launches and do not carry cars, and the island is largely car-free. Visitors get around on foot or by bicycle. Bikes can be carried on the ferry for a small extra charge.
How often do the Roscoff to Ile de Batz boats run?
In peak summer (July and August) boats leave roughly every 30 minutes through the day. In spring, autumn and winter there is a reduced, fixed timetable, so it is best to check the day's departures before you travel.
Why do I sometimes board from a long pier at Roscoff?
Because of the very large tidal range. At high tide boats leave from Roscoff's harbour, but at low tide the harbour dries out, so passengers walk along the Estacade, a long pier that lets the launches reach deep water. Which point you use depends on the tide that day.
Who operates the Roscoff to Ile de Batz ferry?
The crossing is shared by several local operators of small launches, including CFTM (Compagnie Finisterienne de Transports Maritimes), Armein and Armor Excursions, marketed together as the Vedettes de l'Ile de Batz. Tickets are generally interchangeable across the shared timetable.
Can I visit the Ile de Batz on a day trip?
Yes. The high frequency in season makes it ideal for a half-day or full-day visit. You can cross over, explore the beaches, lighthouse and gardens on foot or by bike, and return on a later launch the same day.
How much does a ticket cost?
Fares start from around €11. Prices vary by operator, season, cabin and whether you take a vehicle.
What time are the first and last sailings?
The first sailing currently departs at 08:30 and the last leaves at 19:00. Departure times vary by day and season — check the timetable above for the exact sailing you need.
Does the ferry run all year?
Sailings run daily, and frequency can change between the summer and winter seasons. The timetable above shows the latest published departures — confirm with the operator for off-season dates.
Can I take a pet on this ferry?
Most ferry operators allow pets on this route, usually in a carrier, on deck or in designated pet areas or cabins, and registered assistance dogs travel free. Rules and any fees vary by operator and vessel — check with Vedettes de l'Île de Batz, so declare your pet when booking.
What's the luggage allowance?
Foot passengers can normally bring their own luggage aboard at no extra charge, with racks or a luggage area near the entrance, and there is usually no airline-style weight limit. Oversized or excess items may carry a fee, so check with the operator if you are travelling with bulky baggage.
