About

About Île de Batz

Where you board here depends on the tide. At high water the boats use the Quai Neuf; at low water they use a jetty that runs 590 metres out from the shore, and you walk the length of it to reach the ferry. Same crossing, same fifteen minutes, entirely different arrival on foot.

The crossing

Roscoff to Île de Batz takes about 15 minutes, and our timetable holds 45 sailings in each direction — the busiest route at either end of this crossing by a wide margin.

It runs year round, and no booking is required for individual passengers. Turn up, buy a ticket, board.

⚠ The 590-metre walk

At low tide the jetty is the boarding point, and it is long. With luggage, a pushchair or limited mobility that is a genuine consideration rather than a curiosity — there is no vehicle access along it.

Tide tables therefore decide how easy your departure is, not just when the boat leaves. The jetty reopened on 15 June 2026 after works, with services back to the old port arrangement from 4 July 2026.

The island end

Île de Batz is small, low and worked — market gardening in the mild Atlantic climate, a lighthouse, and a botanical garden that survives on the Gulf Stream. It is a short island: walking is the normal way around and bicycles are hired at the port.

Bringing a vehicle is not the point here, and the boats are passenger craft.

Not from Bloscon

This service leaves from the old port in Roscoff town, not from the Port du Bloscon ferry terminal on the headland where the Plymouth and Cork ships berth. The two are about a kilometre and a half apart.

Arriving off a Channel ferry and walking to the wrong quay is the classic error here.

Season

Sailings run all year for the island's residents, with a much denser summer timetable. Winter reduces the service but does not stop it — this is a lifeline route, and the tide governs it in every month.
