Leaving from the foot of Old Québec, this is the crossing that gives you the city's most famous silhouette — Château Frontenac, the Citadelle and the cliff of Cap Diamant — from the one angle you cannot reach on foot. The run takes about 12 minutes, and the Société des traversiers du Québec puts on roughly 30 departures a day in each direction, so the timetable behaves less like a ferry schedule and more like a bus route: you turn up rather than plan around it. Service is year-round. In winter the vessels work through drifting ice on the St. Lawrence, which is a large part of why locals still use it while the bridges carry the rush hour. Foot passengers, cyclists and vehicles are all carried. Arriving at Lévis puts you on the south shore for the Chaudière-Appalaches region and the riverside cycling paths that start near the terminal.
