About the PiombinoPortoferraio crossing

The main gateway to Elba, and the busiest ferry corridor in the Tuscan archipelago: 37 sailings a day between Piombino and Portoferraio, from 05.30 to 22.30. The crossing takes one hour.

Four companies, two different seasons

This is one route but two overlapping regimes. Toremar runs the year-round backbone — 21 daily departures under a timetable valid from January to December, every day of the week. On top of that, Moby Lines and Blu Navy add 16 sailings that run only from 1 June to 30 September, with Corsica & Sardinia Ferries also present. In winter the service is Toremar's alone; in high summer departures come roughly twice an hour.

Which ship, which company

Blu Navy works the route with Acciarello and Moby with Moby Aki. Because Moby has owned Toremar since 2012, the two brands appear on the same corridor without competing on it — check which carrier your ticket names before joining a queue.

Boarding

Check-in is electronic, carried out in the yard in front of the ship rather than at a terminal desk. Portoferraio's passenger port is on 0565 914133, Piombino's on 0565 222300.

At the far end

Portoferraio's old town is a fortified citadel, with the Linguella tower standing at the end of the dock — now an exhibition space. From here Toremar also runs the short island hop to Cavo.
