About the MayaMatnog crossing

Maya–Matnog is Lite Ferries' alternate northern-Cebu gateway to Luzon, sailing from Maya Port in Daanbantayan — the very northern tip of Cebu, also the jump-off point for Malapascua Island — up to Matnog Port in Sorsogon, Bicol. Along with the nearby Bogo–Matnog service, it is one of the only scheduled sea connections that lets travellers and vehicles move directly between the northern Visayas and mainland Luzon without the long overland trip through Samar and Leyte.

The ships are roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) vessels, operated by Cebu-based Lite Shipping Corporation, carrying foot passengers alongside motorcycles, cars, vans and larger trucks. The open-water crossing between Daanbantayan and Sorsogon typically runs about 9 hours (sources vary from roughly 7 to 10 hours depending on the vessel and weather), and departures are scheduled overnight — commonly leaving late evening around 11:45 PM–11:59 PM and arriving the next morning. This is not an every-day service: sailings run only on selected days of the week in each direction, so seats and vehicle slots should be arranged ahead of time.

Passenger fares fall in roughly the ₱990–₱1,200 range depending on the accommodation class, with the usual discounts for senior citizens, persons with disabilities and children. Vehicles are charged separately by size. Passengers are advised to arrive at Maya Port at least an hour before departure with a valid government-issued ID, as boarding closes ahead of the sailing. Because Maya sits at Cebu's northern extreme, the route pairs naturally with onward land travel down the Cebu east coast or with island-hopping to Malapascua.
