About the Matane – Godbout crossing
The second of the two north-shore landfalls served from Matane. Godbout is a smaller village than Baie-Comeau, about 55 kilometres further east along Route 138, and for anyone heading toward Sept-Îles or the Duplessis region it is the more direct arrival of the pair. The crossing itself takes around two and a half hours across the widest part of the St. Lawrence estuary. Sailings alternate between the two northern ports across the day, so the destination is fixed by the departure you take — worth checking before booking, since arriving at the wrong village adds an hour of driving. The ship carries vehicles year-round, and as with the Baie-Comeau leg the limited number of daily departures makes advance reservation the sensible approach in summer.
