About the CheveryHarrington Harbour crossing

A 35-minute crossing on Québec's Lower North Shore, the stretch of coast east of Kegaska where Route 138 simply stops and the communities beyond it have no road connection to the rest of the province. Harrington Harbour is one of them: an English-speaking fishing village built on bare rock, where the ground is uneven enough that the village is laid out along wooden boardwalks rather than streets, and ATVs and snowmobiles do the work cars do elsewhere. The ferry from Chevery is a working link, not a tourist service — it carries residents, and the schedule is thin. Weather in this part of the Gulf of St. Lawrence disrupts sailings, and the alternatives when it does are air service or, in deep winter, snowmobile routes over the ice.
