About the Bogo – Matnog crossing
The Bogo–Matnog crossing is one of the few direct sea links between the Visayas and Luzon, operated by Cebu-based Lite Ferries (Lite Shipping Corporation). Ships sail from Polambato Port in Bogo City, on the northeast coast of Cebu, across the open Visayan and Samar seas to Matnog Port at the southern tip of Sorsogon, Bicol — the same terminal that anchors Luzon's main RoRo link to Samar. For travellers heading between northern Cebu and mainland Luzon, this route replaces a much longer land journey up through Samar and Leyte and over the San Juanico Bridge.
These are full roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) vessels, so they carry not just foot passengers but motorcycles, cars, vans, trucks and even trailers. Lite Ferries introduced the faster M/V Lite Ferry Six on the corridor, whose roughly 13-knot service speed trimmed the crossing from the older 9–10 hours down toward about 7 hours; scheduling and vessel assignment mean sailings still commonly run 7–9 hours in practice. Departures are overnight, typically leaving around 11:45 PM–11:59 PM and arriving the following morning.
Service is not daily — it runs several times a week in each direction (Matnog-bound sailings generally on alternating days from Bogo-bound ones), so booking ahead matters. Passenger fares sit in roughly the ₱1,100–₱1,330 band depending on accommodation class, with discounts for seniors, PWDs and children. Vehicle rates scale by size, from about ₱2,500 for a motorcycle up to around ₱17,000 for a van. Vehicle owners are typically asked to reserve a slot two to three days before departure, while walk-in tickets for foot passengers are sold at the port during set afternoon-to-evening hours.
